Table / Swedish Massage
As companies are becoming progressively more aware of the importance of employee wellbeing it is now more commonplace to see table massage taking place in the workplace. Also known as Swedish Massage or Holistic Massage, table massage goes beyond the employee 'treat' to provide a holistic approach to physical and mental wellbeing.
What to Expect:
The treatment can be a full body massage or can focus on particular areas of the body requiring attention such as neck & shoulders, back neck & shoulders, or legs & feet. The treatment does require the removal of clothing and the use of massage oils or creams. Towels are used to ensure the client's modesty is protected at all times.
Benefits:
Massage relieves tension from sore muscles, improves circulation and breaks down the build up of toxins in the body. A massage also works well at non-physical level, reducing mental stress and inducing an overall feeling of wellness. Physical problems of the neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands can be exacerbated by office work and stress. A regular massage is particularly effective for improving the clients overall awareness of their physical and mental health, identifying tensions before they become serious. The client becomes more aware of their posture, stress and its physical effects which may lead to increased stretching and exercise improve their wellbeing.
Equipment Required:
The massage is performed on a standard massage table (couch) with a face hole for the client's comfort. The massage table is provided by the therapist along with towels, table covers, oils and creams.
Room Required:
For table massage in the office environment a private room is essential, where windows are covered to ensure the client's privacy. It is also essential that the room is warm and quiet to give maximum benefit from the massage. The massage table is usually over 6 foot long and additional space is required around the table to allow the therapist to manouevre.
Recommended Treatment Lengths:
We suggest the following treatment times are allowed for an effective massage treatment.
Full Body Massage - 45 mins to 60 mins
Back Neck & Shoulder Massage - 30 mins to 45 mins
Neck & Shoulder Massage - 15 mins to 30 mins
Leg & Foot massage - 15 mins to 30 mins.
Due to the physical nature of table massage and the importance of employee consultation and feedback we suggest breaks between treatments of 5 to 15 minutes (depending on the length of the treatment)
Event Suitability:
Table massage is best suited to environment which are easy to control with regards to respecting the client's privacy. They are therefore suited to the office environment where a private room is available and not so well suited to public events where conditions are less controllable. Table massage can be performed at public events provided care is taken (e.g. room dividers) to ensure the client feels at ease.
Maximum benefit is gained through regular treatments (e.g. every two to four weeks). Due to the requirement of a suitable private room, table massage is not usually recommended to 'one off' events where chair massage or executive head massage may be more appropriate.
